See.Sense: ICON2
We caught up with Junior Designer, Alix Taylor, about the much-anticipated See.Sense product which we’re sure, will be just as popular as the previous ones. Introducing, ICON2! A new and improved version of ICON, their outstandingly successful product produced in 2015.
Husband and wife duo, Philip and Irene, founded the company in 2013. Since then, they have hosted Kickstarter campaigns which were a huge success and they have had major support locally. Their aim is to simply make cycling safe, enjoyable and convenient for all.
Tens of thousands of cyclists use their products all around the world. The ICON2 is perfect for long cycles, group rides, has the intelligence of the ACE light.
Alix has only been working at See.Sense for just under a year. However, her impact within this short time has been vital for the company and this product. We asked Alix some questions to give you insight into the product, life as a designer, packaging and future products!
What was the inspiration behind ICON2?
ICON2 is an updated version of our much-loved light, ICON, first made back in 2015. It was due a refresh and we wanted to make it brighter and more usable than ever. We have given it a combination of CoB (Chip on Board) and CREE LEDs to maximise the brightness and it is now smaller and lighter than its predecessor. It also uses the same mounting system as our ACE light, making it even more secure on the bike. Similar to our other light products, ICON2 contains intelligent technology that allows it to react to your environment, monitoring the quality of your ride and sending back data that can be analysed to identify road conditions in need of improvement.
What is the official launch date?
ICON2 will be sent out to Kickstarter backers and made available on our website in August!
What’s it like to see a part of something you designed, come to life?
I have been working with See.Sense for just under a year, so I still find it exciting when something I have helped design is released to our customers. It’s great to see everyone posting photos of our products in use on social media and suggesting future ideas for what they would like to see us make.
What’s your favourite thing about the packaging?
As our lights are all part of the same family, we wanted this connection between them to be clear through our packaging design as this is the first interaction the customer has with the product. Our ICON2 box is similar in aesthetic to our ACE light that we released last year, but through minor changes we communicate the premium aspects of ICON2. It’s also great that our packaging has eliminated the need for plastic and is made entirely of card, meaning it can be recycled once the light is in use on the bike.
Are there many future ideas in the pipeline for See.Sense that we can look forward to?
Our first to-see light, BEAM, was launched last year on Kickstarter is our focus at the moment. We are currently in the product testing phase of product development to make sure it will perform as we expect when out on a ride. This means I’ll soon be starting to explore packaging ideas for this product release!
We’re thrilled there are products in the pipeline for See.Sense and we’re sure the team can pull off another showstopper. Our pink packaging for See.Sense was a finalist in the UK Packaging Awards 2014. We hope the new packaging will be successful too!
We’re not surprised See.Sense’s products are award-winning. We have seen this company grow and develop further and further each year. They are more than just a business. They are a community.
